I am thankful that you have shared Valery with so many people, she is a God giving miracle and it has been a blessing to watch. We just had a wonderful celebration with Valery and the family. It was such a great feeling to watch her play and see her eat her cake and ice cream (what she did not have all over and even in her hair!). She is such a very special little girl and there are no words to express the feelings in my heart of all the joy that has come to us from this very special gal! I am so proud to be her Nana and I am so happy to have shared all the bad and the good times. I thank God for all of his love and for holding Vals little hand, making her strong and happy!
And I am just as proud of Carly and Chris for their faith and trust in God and his miracle.
God crafted the entire thing and never stopped holding Vals little precious hand nor did he look away, for that I will always love Him and give praise to Him. Grandma Tina, I cannot even begin to express in words how I feel about you so generously giving of yourself to our little sweetie. Our family, and yours, will never forget the blessing you have given all of us.
I wish Valery and all of us a very happy anniversary. We will be doing this every year for a long, long time!!

Just wanted to say hello again. I've only posted once before... I am Brayden's mom in Wisconsin. Brayden celebrated his six-month post-transplant anniversary on November 9. We can't believe that he has made it six months with relatively few problems and none of them were liver-related. We find out today if he can come off one of his medications (Valgancyclovir)... keeping our fingers crossed! So glad to hear that Valery is doing well. Soon she will celebrate her 1-year anniversary, and we all know what a miracle that is!! God bless you and your family always. Brenda

Thanks for the post on our website! When we first joined COTA I was looking at the other campaigns and your daughter's was the first I saw. I was so amazed at how well she is doing and it has given me great hope! It is amazing how strong our sweet girls are. Currently Maggie is #1 on the Johns Hopkins transplant list so hopefully it will be soon. I practically jump every time the phone rings :-) Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers as well!

Hi! My husband Ron, son Brayden and I live in Stoughton Wisconsin. We first learned about Valery when she was on the Channel 15 news in Madison when she had her transplant. Brayden was on the waiting list for a new liver at that time. He is the same age as Valery (born April 16 2007). On April 28 2008, we were watching the 10:00pm Channel 15 news and saw a follow-up interview of your family. We were so happy to know that Valery was doing so well but at the same time wondered when Brayden would get his new liver. Believe it or not, about 10 minutes after your story aired, the phone rang, and it was the call we had been waiting for -- they had a donor for our son!!! Brayden received his transplant on April 29 2008. Unfortunately, that liver failed, and he had to have a second transplant on May 9 2008. The following day he had to have reconstructive surgery. It has been a long road, but today is his 5-month post-transplant #2 anniversary, and besides a few bumps in the road, he has been doing well. I check Valery's journal on a regular basis and am so happy that she is doing so well. She is a beautiful little girl, and she is always in our prayers. May God continue to bless all of you. Brenda

So glad all is going so well with Valery. Can't wait to see her in her dress - Treyton was in his Aunt's wedding on 8/16 and he looked darling in his tux. Prayers and hugs to all maybe we will get to meet in December.

I just wanted to let you know that Bryson had the mmr and was fine with it. He is totally caught up on all his shots and there was no problem. We have been on the prograf for a week now and labs were good but still waiting on the level to come back. Our troopers our such little fighters:):) I'm happy to hear about Val's teeth coming in. Bryson has all his but we can finally see more of them with his gums going down. YAYYY:):)

I am so happy to hear she is doing so good. My daughter is the one that also had Biliary atresia. I know of the swollen gums as my daughters gums were huge. We are post transplant 2 yrs and 4 months and doing wonderful. This first yr is the hardest but after that its WONDERFUL. I am always checking on her. Please let me know if you ever want to talk its nice talking to people who went through the same as I have.

I'm very happy to hear that things are becoming more stable for all of you. I'm also glad to hear that Valery's gums are receeding and her teeth are coming through, I can't wait til she takes a big bite on Daddy's nose with those chompers...... Lol...... I'm sorry to hear about the rejection. I'm glad it seems like it was easily treated. I know it had to be crazy with her being more aware and mobil at the hospital. That is one of my fears along with rejection. Did you see Dr. A at all while you were there? If so how did that go? Well, we just got back from Chi town. They also switched Bryson to Prograf due to his gums. Lets pray for eachother that allgoes well with the switch. Take care:)

I got really encouraged to see that Val's bm's have returned to normal. We never thought we would get excited over poopy diapers did we until we had sick kids.

It's good you and Chris know what to look for. It's always good to be on the cautious side of things but not to think the worst and to wait on the results from our doctors. You and Chris are such good parents to all of your kids and I applaud you for spending lots of time with them. I have seen so many parents put their careers and other things ahead of their families.

I know Val is going to be just fine.

I just want to share a few things.
I heard from Vals mom, and the family is on their way into Chicago for the Celebrate Life Festival at Lincoln Park given by the Childrens Hosp of Chicago for the transplant kids. And even more important, Val gets to share this glorious celebration with her donor-angel-grandma! WooHoo!! YOu go Grandma Tina!! Is that not the very best???
I want to take a minute to mention another very important thing to you, organ donation. Please tell everyone you see every single day to be a donor and to tell their family that they are going to donate.
Last but not least, please pray for those precious little gals and guys that are waiting for their life saving organ and their families for whom time barely moves. Remember, we were all there at one time or another!

I swear every new picture I see of Miss Val she just gets cuter and cuter! What an encouragement to all of the freshly transplanted kiddo's she is! We continue to pray that everything stays "normal" for a very long time!

We had a super great time at the very successful fundraiser yesterday. What a great bunch of volunteers to work with and we met so many wonderful people from the Midlands area. We live in such a great place with great people!!! I am so proud to be a South Carolina gal!

The video is excellent, I am so glad the news crew there did a follow up so that everyone can see how great she is doing and how happy she is with her brothers. They all did a great job!! My favorite part was Jonah kissing her that was too cute.

Yea!!! Going home sounds like a serious winner!!! She is so stinkin cute I love the face that she has in the picture with her tinkerbell shirt it is just funny!! I am going to do a speech on organ donation in march or april and I would like to use some of Val's pictures in a power point presentation if that is ok? I wouldn't use any real details just that she has had a liver transplant for BA and it was in Dec. If that is ok could you PM me on LF and let me know?

Bryson had the same thing about 5 months post transplant that you explained in your journal (first ambulance ride). It's the weirdest thing cuz it was the same thing with the gagging and throwing up. We spent about 24 hours at Richland and then he was fine. They said it was some bug that ran it's course. HUMMMM that is weird. Were so happy she is doing well and your coming HOME yeah:):) Your lucky we were in chicago for four months. See ya soon.

Wow what a scare barry still has puking episodes at times and gives us scares we have rode in the ambulance to many times so I know the feeling Praying for Valery everyday

I am so so glad that shes doing so much better. i have been and i will continue to do so. im so glad that she has made a great recovery. and i know she will be better each day. like you have said this is a really great christmas present she could ever get.

Our family has been praying for Valery since just after you found out that her dad was not a match after all. We have always stayed at Kohl's house since Em had her transplants. We were there for four months and Em was in the hospital for most of it. I wonder if they had a policy change? I stayed at RMH for years before transplant and it is nice, just have to share a bathroom...IKKY. We pray for you every day.

I lived in Iowa then and I now live in SC, but I used to babysit back in the 80's for a little girl Suzy Stark that needed a liver transplant that was a year old. I often helped give medicine and that little 'sunflower angel' really changed my life as a 15 year old. Although I moved away when she was 2 1/2 she still is in my thoughts and prayers and now Val is to. God Bless you and I hope a long and wonderful healthy life is ahead of Val and your entire family.

I remember Jack have a thousand things hooked up to him after the Kasai....it's a wonderful feeling as they take this tube out, then that one....I know it's heartbreaking, but I have the say....I know you said her colour was getting better 'slowly'.....when I looked at the pre and post transplant pictures it looks like night and day...even my hubby agreed....
Look at her and think...yes a lot of scary machines and tubes.....but it's her body and God working together to get her better.....

I am one of Katie's co workers at Aetna and we have been praying by knee mail and email for baby girl and your family.I thank God now for his miracles and healing that has happened and what is going to happen. I am pretty sure Katie told you but I speak from experience of defeating the challenges. My 2 year old had a rough beginning and we were told what she may not be able to do but just continue to trust in the Lord and be of good courage because Tyla is also a miracle that beat the odds and Valery is on her way. Mom and I have decided that this years Christmas for our children and their spouses will be given to the The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) for the benefit of Dear Little Valery. HOOOORAY!!! Valery will have her transplant surgery on Monday, December 3rd!! I thank God for his hand in this and Tina for graciously donating a part of her liver. It is a great thing you are doing for our Valery! We are off to Chicago this weekend!

I am excited and pleased to hear about the test results. You don't know me, but my daughter Stephanie Rinehart told me about you, and then she sent the news story to me by email link so I could see it.

Your story is uncannily ours. I, too, gave life as a grandma to my grandaughter Alyssa, who was diagnosed with BA at 7 weeks. Alyssa underwent the Kasai, which only bought time, and at 7 months, I donated my liver at Pittsburgh Children's Hospital,and Alyssa began her new life. I deeply understand what you are going through...the emotions, the worry, the uncertainty, about a million other things, and a wish for a life for a baby...please, hang in there. Hi there. This family should contact Mocha Moment Coffee House in Janesville, WI to do a fundraiser for Valery. They do fundraisers all the time for causes such as this one. They are normally closed on Sunday's, but if there is a benefit fundraiser, they will open from 7AM to 12PM or so, and all proceeds go to the cause, nothing to Mocha Moment. The families usually help out at the fundraiser, and Mocha Moment employees donate their time for it. It's worth looking into. I don't believe they have a phone, but they are located on Center Ave. in Janesville near the VFW club. The owner is Steve. They are really great people. Good luck with everything!!

Hello, I am a mother of one and I just thank god everyday that he is just fine and to hear about this kind of situation just kills me. I just about cry when I hear about these poor children who would like to live, but there are these kinds of obstacles. I am a type O+ and I am unsure if that would even work, but I would absolutely love to donate part of my liver to this little girl but unfortunately I do not meet any of the requirements. I am 10+ pounds over, I do smoke (but only about 3 cigarettes a day) and I drink every just about every Friday night, every other for sure. So I am very sorry for that but like I said I would do it in a HEARTBEAT!!! God bless and may he be with you holding your hand on this journey.

The response from people wanting to be tested as potential donors has been amazing!!! I wanted to give everyone a little information about the testing process. Health insurance companies only pay for one person to be tested at a time, so Matt Harrington is up next. The cost of testing out of pocket is around $8000.00 - $10,000.00 per person, so it is an expensive process. Those people who would like to help Valery by wishing to be placed on the potential donor list need to have O+ blood type, be in good physical condition, non - smokers, and non-drinkers. In addition to this basic criteria, there are other factors as well, such as obesity, chronic disease

I just saw a news story about Valery on NBC 15 Madison. I myself am the recipient of a living transplant. I received a kidney from my mother almost 9 years ago after a car accident.
